The Big Picture

I study the physical characterization of protein-lipid interactions using x-ray scattering and analysis techniques

While there are many experimental approaches that can yield information about protein structure, it is very difficult to measure structure and orientation information of protein in complex with membrane. X-ray scattering combined with statistical testing allows us to test models of such interactions with the data ultimately verifying the most likely model My work is primarily focused on analysis as our data contains far more information than the standard analysis techniques yield us. This includes expanding the class of models we can evaluate as well as expanding the amount of experimental data that can be used to match with the models.
